The Taxonomy Division Needs You!

Colleagues:

The Taxonomy Division Needs You!

Serving on the Division board is a great opportunity to develop leadership and management skills, meet and work with others in the association and the field, and influence the direction of a new and vibrant Division. If not you, who? Have someone you think would be an asset to the board? Consider nominating that person!

We have the following Executive Board openings for 2016:

Chair-Elect / Chair / Past Chair (3-Year Term)
This individual serves one year as Chair-elect, effective January 2016, and becomes Chair of the Division in January 2017 or earlier, if the Chair is unable to serve. This individual will serve as Past-chair in 2018. The Chair-elect and current Chair are asked to represent the Division at the Division Cabinet meetings at the SLA Annual Conference and possibly, the Leadership Summit, in addition to participating in regular Division board meetings via webinar.

Treasurer (2-Year Term)
The Division treasurer has two main duties: 1) handle the Division’s money, and 2) keep Division leadership and the larger SLA leadership informed about the financial activity and health of the Division. The treasurer fills out monthly and yearly reports to document this activity and is a signatory on the Division’s bank account. It’s a great way to learn about the financial side of running an organization.

Nomination process
If you want to nominate someone (or yourself!), please send the nomination by e-mail to
nominations@taxonomy.sla.org by Friday, Sept. 11, 9 AM Central. For questions or more details about either position, please contact Kathleen McElhinney.

Thank you!
Kathleen McElhinney, Chair, 2016 Taxonomy Division Nominations Committee

SLA 2015 attendees – seeking volunteers!

Are you going to SLA 2015 in Boston? Want a great way to meet and talk with other taxonomists? Read on.

The Taxonomy Division needs a few volunteers to take attendance at sessions, hand out evaluation sheets, serve as greeters at the open house, write summaries of programs for the Taxonomy Times, take photos, and tweet tidbits that tweak your interest. If you can help with any of these, please let us know via this short survey.

These short-term tasks are a great way to get involved, and we really need the help. A few people volunteered in our recent member survey, and we haven’t had a chance to contact each one; but we need a few more people. Helping out with such tasks is a great way to meet people and make a valuable contribution to the division.

Please take a few minutes to fill out the survey. We’d like to have it completed by May 21 so we can plan accordingly.

Taxonomy Division Needs Your Help

The Taxonomy Division Board for 2015 would appreciate your input to help us plan future programs and services. We want to provide educational programs that meet your needs. To do that, we need to hear from you.

We also need volunteers to make these programs and services happen. We need people for ongoing committee roles and for specific tasks that can be done with a minimal time commitment.

We encourage everybody to think about volunteering. You can learn new skills, meet great people, and have something different to put on your resume. It can also be fun!

Let us know what you need from the division, and if you can help in some way by taking this short, 10-minute survey. The deadline is Thurs., April 16. So don’t delay!
